The Proposal

I love this shot. This was the first (and so far only) time that I've seen sims protesting at city hall and when I saw what they were protesting against, I couldn't help thinking of Prop 8.

My Sims tend to get married at some point, but in this case John and Rodney hadn't yet. I like to tell little stories in my head for what I see on screen and in this case I imagined Rodney's outrage (and John's more muted, defeated anger). And then I had Rodney propose to John on the spot amidst those who would deny them the right, because Rodney fights stupidity with facts and the facts are that they can get married (in the Sims 3 at least) and that it's something wonderful and beautiful and a moment of great happiness and love.

So do I. It's making me hopeful though how fast things have moved in the last years (at least in some parts of the world). As I mentioned, The Sims 2 still had "Joinings" for same-sex couples, but decided to go the full marriage route for The Sims 3.
